In an era where remastered collections are a dime-a-doyle, it takes something truly special to stand out from the pack. Thankfully, Activision has seen fit to breathe life back into one of gaming's most beloved franchises with Spyro The Dragon Reignited Trilogy.

For those fortunate enough to have missed out on these classic PS1 gems first time around, let us briefly recap: we're talking about a trilogy that follows the adventures of lovable purple dragonlet Spyro as he battles his way through hordes of Gnorcs and other foul creatures in order to save his fellow dragons from certain doom.

But enough preamble - onto what really matters. The graphics? Absolutely stunning! Every single character model, texture map and environmental detail has been lovingly re-remastered using the latest high-definition technology available (read: not much better than they looked originally). But hey, who cares when it still looks absolutely gorgeous?

Gameplay-wise speaking things remain largely unchanged from their original counterparts. You'll still be controlling Spyro as he bounces, flips and dashboards his way through level after challenging level of platforming goodness.

But don't let that fool you - these games are anything but easy! Even nowdays they require a certain amount of skill to beat without resorting to cheap tricks like using health-ups or exploiting clipping glitches. And trust me when I say there's plenty of both hiding around every corner waiting for an unsuspecting player who dares challenge their mettle.

Of course, no review would be complete without mentioning the sound design. Thankfully Activision has seen fit to keep things faithful to the originals here too - from Spyro's adorable chirps and cooing noises when he gets excited all the way up through Gnasty Gnorcs maniacal cackles as they try and take you down.

Overall, if you're a fan of classic platformers or simply looking for some fun retro gaming action to pass away an afternoon then Spyro The Dragon Reignited Trilogy is absolutely worth picking up. Just be warned: once you've started playing there's no turning back!
